  6. Acorn to Offer Super Choice of IT Courses

  10. Acorn Computers has joined forces with Superchoice to offer a series of
  11. fully resourced residential Information Technology courses tailor-made for
  12. schools and colleges. 
  13.  
  14. Superchoice - a subsidiary of the Pontin's Leisure Group - will be offering
  15. the first Active-IT term time courses at their Osmington Bay Centre
  16. overlooking Weymouth Bay in Dorset.  The Centre boasts four fully equipped
  17. Information Technology rooms each containing twelve Acorn Archimedes
  18. workstations. Other locations around the UK will be added in the future.

  20. The Active-IT courses are designed to take IT out of the classroom and to
  21. explore cross curricular themes through adventure and discovery. Each course
  22. is driven by the needs of the curriculum and is individually tailored for
  23. each group of pupils. As well as providing instruction, the courses will
  24. also offer hands-on experience of a variety of outdoor pursuits such as 
  25. orienteering and field studies.

  27. Acorn's Education Marketing Manager Dick Wallin explained that Acorn had
  28. become involved with Superchoice to launch Active-IT because it appeared
  29. such a worthwhile project. "There is clearly a need to extend IT beyond the
  30. classroom and into the world at large." he explained. "Active-IT will
  31. satisfy a number of curriculum objectives and add an important element of
  32. cross curricular activity at the same time. "

  34. Lloyd Smith, Managing Director of Superchoice, described  the courses as a
  35. learning experience driven by fun and adventure.  "Active-IT links
  36. information technology with the real world." he said. "Rather than learning
  37. computer practice for its own sake, pupils will be able to relate their IT
  38. useage to real life situations.

  40. "School groups are accomodated to a high standard in our single-roomed
  41. chalets, all of which have their own private facilities." he added.
